READ THIS OR FEEL SILLY WHEN I POINT IT OUT TO YOU
This is a thoroughly nerdy waste of time, but I had fun doing it. Its an in-depth analysis of the Halo 3 trailer from E3 '07, which can be found here. [link]
FP-Denotes that all or part of the scene is in first person perspective
TP-Denotes that all or part of the scene is in third person perspective
CIN-Denotes that the scene is part of a cinematic sequence (cut-scene)
GP-Denotes that the scene is gameplay (due to the nature of Bungie's saved-films feature, gameplay is not necesarily in first or third person, it can be seen from any number of angles, such as a bird's eye view)
X-Denotes that any of the above terms are speculative (I.e "I'm not sure if this is a cutscene, but it looks like it")
The trailer opens with a black screen. The opening line "You are, all of you, vermin", sounds as if it's spoken by a Prophet (specifically, the Prophet of Truth. First off, it sounds like him, and secondly, looking back at one of his lines from Halo 2 "We are, all of us, greatly concerned")

Fade in to a scene set in the jungle, assumed to be the first mission of the game (Sierra 117). We can see a waterfall spilling over some rocks into a stream, canopied by trees. The environmental detail is astounding, from the textures on the leaves and rocks to the way the light relfects off the water. As the scene fades in, the camera pans upwards and a Phantom flys over the top of the waterfall. The Phantom also looks great, with the underside being much more detailed (in terms of geometry). As we continue to pan up, we see HDR and some other cool shaders at work with the sunlight filtering through the canopy. Again, the supposed Prophet is heard "Cowering in the dirt, thinking...what?" Fade to black.

Fade in to what looks like a human-constructed environment (somewhere in Voi, perhaps). A marine is on his hands and knees in front of a Brute Cheiftan, who roars at him. NOTE: This marine may be Sgt. Major Avery Johnson. The Cheiftain wears red armor, and carries a gravity hammer on his back (NOT the Fist of Rukt, just a regular gravity hammer) In the background we can see two more brutes (both Captains), who appear to take no notice of the marine, and some crane-like structures . The Marine rises to his feet, and throws a punch at the Brute, who catches his fist, then tosses him up into the air, and kicks him, knocking him out of the shot. Fade out.
Fade in. We see a late-evening sky over a smoke-covered earth. A giant piece of twisted wreckage lies in the middle of a plain, over which two Covenant CCS-class Battlecruises are hovering. We can see mountains in the distance. The first battlecruiser fires a beam of energy earthward, as a lone Phantom flies towards the camera. The second cruiser opens fire as well, and it appears that the Covenant are glassing the planet. Fade out.

Fade in to an area that appears similar to the one shown at 00:12-00:20, possibly Voi. It is evening now, and appears to have been the site of a large battle, as there is burning wreckage everywhere, and a smoky haze permeates the area. In the bottom right corner we can see what appears to be a Brute punching a marine, but its very small, and thus difficult to tell.
We hear the "prophet" saying "Your world will burn until its surface is but glass!"

Same scene, just a little closer in. We get a better look at the building in the background of the first shot. It appears this compound is bordered by jungle. Fade out

Fade in to the Master Chief, standing amongst some burning debris, presumably in an area similar to the previous one. The same style of human architecture and smoky haze can be seen in the background. Also noteworthy is the quality of the lighting on the Chief's model. And the reflections in his visor, also cool. He appears to be carrying an MA5C and a Battle Rifle.
